Missoula-breweries

The sun has finally begun to peak through the Montana sky and we’re more than ready to head to the outdoor breweries, distilleries, and patios with a cold drink in our hands. We’ve waited this long for the summertime, we may as well celebrate! Here are ten bars in Missoula you need to try out this summer.

Iron Horse Brew Pub

We love any bar that allows us to enjoy the Missoula summer with a cold beer in our hands. Iron Horse Brew Pub offers four different outdoor seating sections in Missoula’s historic downtown area. The pub has served the downtown neighborhood for over 30 years and offers an array of drinks and food items, including microbrewery craft beers and fresh bison.

Montana Distillery

Montana Distillery is a Missoula hotspot rich in history. Located in Missoula’s historic district, Montana Distillery is one of the oldest distilleries in the state, dating back as far as the prohibition. The distillery uses traditional methods and Montana ingredients to perfect each cocktail on its menu. It also boasts over 40 different cocktails and award-winning gins and vodkas sourced from Montana sugar and natural flavors.

Ten Spoon Vineyard and Winery

It’s hard to refuse a trip to the winery, especially when the sun is out in Missoula. Take a trip this summer to the Ten Spoon Vineyard and Winery, a 7.5 acre vineyard and winery with a stunning mountain view. Sip on some wine, enjoy the surrounding summertime nature and see the French-American hybrid grapes basking in the sun preparing for the fall harvest.

Highlander Beer

Like many establishments in Missoula, Highlander Beer has a deep history. The brewery is settled in Missoula’s North Reserve and originally served the Missoula locals from 1910 to 1964. Highlander Beer reopened in 2015 alongside the beautiful Grant Creek, offering a large patio, pavilion, and outdoor seating that is perfect for the summertime.

Western Cider Co.

Equipped with a tasting room, outdoor seating, and summertime cocktails and specials, Western Cider Co. is a great spot to stop by with a few friends. The cider locale began in 2012 when founder Michael Billingsley planted 2,500 cider apple trees in Montana’s Bitterroot Valley. Western Cider Co. sources its beverages from its rare apple trees in Montana as well as the northeast.

Big Sky Brewing

If you’re looking for great cheap beer, a friendly atmosphere, and food trucks, make sure to stop by Big Sky Brewing this summer. Originally opened in 1995, Big Sky Brewing has become a Missoula staple. Aside from its popular ales like the Huckleberry Blonde Ale and the Moose Drool Brown Ale, the brewery also hosts outdoor concerts throughout the summer!

Tamarack Brewing Company

Loved by many Missoula locals, the Tamarack Brewing Company is located in downtown Missoula overlooking Caras Park. The brewery offers two floors for whatever mood you’re in: a sports bar downstairs, and a more laid-back and casual experience upstairs. On a sunny day, patrons can enjoy a beer in the outdoor seating area while watching the water cascade down the Clark Fork River.

Montgomery Distillery

Another proud Montana-made distillery that’s a must-visit this summer is the Montgomery Distillery. A thriving local business with five generations rooted in Montana, the Montgomery Distillery uses local ingredients and methods to concoct their craft spirits and award-winning vodka, gin, and whiskey. Gather some friends and enjoy a tour of the Stillroom or a tasting in the Tasting Room.

James Bar

James Bar is quickly becoming a fan favorite thanks to its unique menu, outdoor patio, and inviting atmosphere. Sip on a beer while enjoying an Elk or Bison burger while taking in the Missoula summer sun. James Bar is open until 2 am and has daily and weekly specials.

Top Hat

Top Hat has an indoor stage that creates an intimate experience with musical guests and local performing artists. The bar also hosts fun trivia nights and other events for its patrons to enjoy. It’s the perfect place to stop by after work with a friend, sip on a cocktail, and listen to some live music.
