Conundrum, the featured wines at GL this month are in a candy cane theme.  Red and white.  Conundrum comes in a gift package with with one red and one white. The package deal is $12 less than buying them individually.

Conundrum is produced by the Wagner family; they describe the red as having rich aromas, “The palate is fruit driven–both before and after the velvety, tannin-structured middle core. It’s a serious wine with a playful profile.”

The white is described as, “An excellent food wine that is fun to match with Indian, Thai or any spicy Asian foods.  Oysters or tacos?  You bet.  Serve chilled. A balanced wine with a lush, creamy texture….”.

The other featured wines are the red and white of Tablas Creek. The Tablas Creek winery is located in the Las Tablas district west of Paso Robles. The white is a 2011 Patelin de Tablas Blanc which, “marries the richness and vibrancy of Grenache Blanc with the aromatics of Viognier and the structure and minerality of Marsanne and Roussanne.”

The red, a 2011 Patelin de Tablas, “marries the spice, mineral and structure of Syrah with the generous fruit of Grenache, the backbone of Mourvèdre, and the brightness of Counoise.”

Wine Spectator gives the white wine 89 points and the red 86 points.
