Clontarf Single Malt Irish Whisky
Clontarf Single Malt Irish Whisky

When you hear the word "Irish," it may conjure up certain images: green rolling hills dotted with sheep, cable-knit sweaters and fair-freckled cheeks. Those are all well and good, if you're drinking tea.

A new generation has arrived and there's no wool in site. Introducing the new-fashioned approach to Irish whiskey…Clontarf Whiskey, THE NEW IRISH. Triple distilled and aged to smooth perfection, it's an old craft with a modern personality.

Connemara Cask Strength Peated Single Malt Irish Whisky
Connemara Cask Strength Peated Single Malt Irish Whisky

Unique to the world of Irish whiskeys Connemara Cask Strength is the only Irish whiskey to be produced from its natural strength. Surprisingly smooth at 60% alcohol by volume, the cask strength captures the essence of Connemara. Natural and undiluted, not chill-filtered or coloured in any way, Connemara Cask Strength reflects the rugged nature of the famous region in the West of Ireland. As extraordinary as the landscape, this whiskey is exceptional. Because it is so natural and undiluted, the level of alcohol differs between bottlings, and so labels are printed specially for each batch. The pure clear spring water from the Cooley Mountains united with the peated malted barley give the Connemara Cask Strength a rare flavour. Slowly maturing for long years in oak casks, the natural ingredients and traditional distilling methods employed by Cooley Distillery create a whiskey, which is simply spectacular.

Irish Mist Irish Whisky
Irish Mist Irish Whisky Liqueur

This is the only authentic Irish liqueur. A unique blend of heather & clover honey takes you away to a cool, Irish 'morn on the green!

That perfect balance of smooth Irish whiskey and honeyed spicy notes makes Irish Mist ridiculously attractive to cola. Flirt with us a while and uncover where it all began.

Irish Mist was the first liqueur to be produced in Ireland when commercial production began in 1947 at Tullamore, County Offaly. Tullamore is the hometown of the Williams family who were the original owners of Irish Mist. The company history goes back to 1829 when the Tullamore Distillery was founded to produce Irish whiskey. In the mid-1940s Desmond E. Williams began the search for an alternative yet related product. The search ended with the discovery of Irish Mist. Its roots can be traced back to an ancient recipe for heather wine which originated over a 1000 years ago.

Jameson Irish Whisky
Jameson Irish Whisky

In the 200 years since it was first produced, Jameson has become the world’s leading Irish whiskey. More recently, with its average annual growth of 12% for three years and a 7% global growth rate in 2000, Jameson has emerged as one of the fastest growing international spirits. Jameson is a sublimely mellow whiskey with a sweet taste at first that fades into a luxurious mix of malt and vanilla. Made primarily from pure Irish water and the finest Irish barley, Jameson is created through a fastidious multi-stage process with unique characteristics. The malting stage uses barley dried in a closed kiln, preserving the clean, honeyed flavor of the malt and eliminating the smoky, peaty flavor present in Scotch whisky. Jameson is then triple-distilled. Finally, the whiskey is aged for a minimum of five to seven years after being matured in American bourbon and Spanish sherry oak casks.

Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve Irish Whisky
Jameson Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve Irish Whisky

You've met the Jameson Family, now meet the Godfather of them all, Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve. This initial expression of maturing rare pot still whiskey in traditional fortified wine casks is a triumph of the collaboration between the Jameson Masters; devotees to their craft whose skill and artistry have been richly rewarded.

All the whiskeys in this magnificent Reserve are of an advanced age and have an immense collage of flavours to impart from their time in the wood. The pick of our older grain whiskeys were brought together with some rare and charismatic pot still whiskeys that had been matured in hand-picked second fill bourbon casks. These were carefully married with a rare pot still whiskey that was aged to a fantastic mellow sweetness in specially commissioned port pipes. The resulting union has a glorious, fruit rich character.

TASTING CHARACTERISTICS
NOSE - A real full bodied aroma. Initially sweet with ripe fruit notes of melon, bananas and dark fleshy plums. The unmistakable pot still spicy character combines to give hints of treacle, cinnamon and liquorice.

TASTE - A mouthful of flavours. Mellow sweetness and toasted wood are complemented by fruit richness characteristic of the port casks. A touch of creamy dairy fudge and dark chocolate add to the complexity.

FINISH - A tantalisingly long finish which covers the spectrum from the sweetness of fruit, through the spices to the unmistakable note of barley, where it all began.

John Powers Gold Label Irish Whisky
John Powers Gold Label Irish Whisky

“Powers is one of the best kept secrets in the whiskey category,” notes Wayne Hartunian, Brand Director Irish Whiskies, Pernod Ricard USA. “We want to let the secret out and introduce more consumers to this amazingly smooth and infinitely drinkable Irish Whiskey. The first step is to make the package more distinct, appealing and more representative of the quality of the product in the bottle. We believe we have achieved our goal and created the perfect look for Powers Gold Label Irish Whiskey.”

Powers Gold Label is a blend of pot still and grain whiskey that is triple distilled and aged 100 percent in bourbon oak casks for four to six years. The whiskey is fruity and spicy with some dry peppery tones on the nose. The taste is a combination of the unique full bodied, spicy, slightly oily flavor of Irish pot still whiskey and the honey-like sweetness that comes from maturing in charred oak barrels. The finish is long, sweet and sour with lingering spice.

Knappogue Castle Irish Whisky
Knappogue Castle Irish Whisky

Color
Pale golden color, derived entirely from long maturation in bourbon oak casks.

Aroma
Very well balanced, clean fresh citrus and floral notes, complex mellow aromas of malt, perfumy oils, honey/vanilla with medium intensity. Touch of toasted wood also.

Taste
Really mellow and well rounded, very well balanced, medium intensity, sweetish complex taste incorporating the aromas above.

Comment
The 1995 Knappogue has more bourbon barrel wood character than the 1994, which serves to increase the taste complexity and makes the whiskey that bit more mellow and rounded. Malt whiskey purists will sometimes argue that malts are best matured in old, many times used casks to minimize the wood influence on the malt, thus allowing the "true distillery character" to be clearly tasted. However, others will argue that the interaction of the pure malt spirit with the wood extractives available in a fairly fresh cask will serve to add to the overall taste experience—since it adds to the complexity of the taste—and this would be my own view. I think the Knappogue Castle 1995, with its greater wood influence, is a nicely judged advance from the 1994 in terms of its overall taste experience.

Redbreast 12 YO Irish Whisky
Redbreast 12 YO Irish Whisky

This brilliant revival of a long-respected name in Irish whiskey hearkens back to the great classics. Redbreast is a very special single unblended whiskey, triple distilled in old copper pot stills at Midleton Distillery. It is the only 100% pure pot still Irish whiskey on the market today.

The whiskey is aged for at least twelve years in a combination of old Spanish Oloroso sherry casks and fresh American bourbon whiskey barrels.
The whiskey is traditional in style, being strongly flavored and assertive but not over robust or pungent.

It is a distinctively Irish whiskey, sophisticated and elegant with a smooth and mellow character, attributable to the special triple distillation process. Redbreast single pot still Irish is very much a whiskey to be drunk slowly so that its rare complexity can be truly savored. Taken neat in a cognac type balloon glass, it is a perfect after dinner drink.

Tullamore Dew Irish Whisky
Tullamore Dew Irish Whisky

One of Ireland's finest and most widely distributed whiskeys, Tullamore Dew was first distilled in 1829 in the small town of Tullamore in County Offaly in the heart of Ireland. Map

The name derives from the initials of an early owner, Daniel E Williams - DEW.

Tullamore Dew is a favourite among Irish whiskeys for its distinctive, accessible taste, enjoyed on its own, over ice or with a little water.

Connoisseurs describe Tullamore Dew as "subtle, smooth and with a pleasant maltiness combined with charred wood undertones and the natural flavour of golden barley".
